Sour Monkey Available All Year from Victory Brewing Company
Victory Brewing Company’s sour seasonal Sour Monkey is back for a second year – and it’s here to stay. Victory is also introducing a very limited run of their new Sour Monkey Remix. These sour Brettanomyces-infused Tripels are a transformation of Victory’s popular Golden Monkey.
Coming in at 9.5% ABV, Sour Monkey incorporates multiple fermentations – the first of which incorporates Westmalle yeast that lends itself to the traditional ‘monkey’ character for which it’s named. The brewers combine juicy Tettnang and Hallertau whole flower hops with Pilsner malt and coriander seed before adding the fun and funk of the secondary fermentation with two strains of Brettanomyces yeast. These yeasts are known for their volatility and are often left out of the brewing process due to their hard to control nature. But the brewers at Victory have harnessed the power of the yeast with a unique recipe, fermentation control, and final blending within the brewing process, to create exciting, savory nuances.
Sour Monkey is available across the 37 states where Victory is sold in 750 ml bottles retailing at $9, with six packs at $12, depending on location.
